I think one of the missing ingredients in business decision today is common sense. MBA is all about common sense. The whole syllabus of MBA is about delighting customers. But I believe it has to put a stop if it is crossing the line here.
What I am trying to say is, not to overdo the process of delighting customers until it affect our principles. While acknowledging that networking, delighting customers and building loyalty is important, it should has its own check and balance. While it is true that some activities are beneficial, others might be destroying society values such as some unhealthy activities. There is a saying that early part of our life is spent on making money and the latter part is spent on treating diseases.
We have to understand that the measurement on success not merely monetary in nature because we cannot bring it over to the next world. Thus, a wise person will balance between working, families, recreation etc. We have to remain constantly improving our health as we gradually getting older. Health is extremely important.
A lot of organizations cultures are not good. In-fighting, distrusts, betrayer make some places to work efficiently and effectively impossible. Some have a lot of medical leaves as a result of too much stress in the work place. “Sun Tzu Art of War “taught us not to tire our workers unnecessary. Long hours with undesirable working condition should be avoided if we want to develop faithful and loyal workers.
As we recap what we have discussed, we should be continue to major in the major, not major in the minor, prioritizes our activities in life and remains principles centered. Otherwise sooner or later we will crumble, either by our weariness, the stresses of work as the equilibrium of life is affected.
For those who are pursuing post graduate program, you need to ensure that while the destination is important, the journey is equally important too. For those who are struggling in your organization, maybe it is time to change over to a fresh start. Yet for those who are seems to be thriving, remember this what you do to others, will eventually come back to you, called it the law of life or Karma or whatever you like , it is for real.
And last but not least, for those who was terminated either fairly or unfairly, a fresh start unveil, for when the storm is finished, they shall see rainbow; the darker the night, the brighter the star. Tough time never last, tough people do, if you think you can, you are right, if you think you cannot, you are right too!
Success in life is about how much we are able to make someone smile every day, how we are able to help someone, the ability to inspire someone to the path of greatness. It is about giving, sharing and understanding. This will make our workplace a much better place. Remember this, about one third of our life is spent in the workplace, thus enjoy what you do and in return, contribute your part in developing and nourishing a positive workforce not a negative environment. This is the organization culture we can envisage and develop; as organization culture is one of the factors of a making of success or failure.
Have a breakthrough day ahead….
