A lot of industry performance is going downwards… there are also numerous VSS as reported in the press such as Astro, among others. There was also demonstration by a group of insurance agents in the capital city a few weeks ago due to the dwindling of commission scheme. Some outlets in some hypermarkets have to make way due to the increase in electricity tariff.
Is the barometer indicates a worsening condition of the economy? From the observation made, it is really not a good sign. However, I am a tough minded optimist; we need to rise above the storm. Remember this, in good time, there are people who fail and in bad time there a people who succeed. Thus, it really needs a greater analysis on the underlying factors that contribute to the above.
When the principles of business are violated, it creates a chain of negative reaction that will boomerang against those culprits. In this 21st century, speed is important. We need not only to relearn, unlearn and master more skills in order to be above in the competitive edge.
We learn from the best, be the best and teach the best to others. Why? Because good is the enemy of the best. For e.g. we should read the best books not the good books, we should be doing our best not just try to do the best.
In everything we do, we do the best. Let me give an example about Bruce Lee, about his principle. He taught the best to his students. If he has 10 techniques, he taught it all (of course to his selected trusted inner cycle). Then the question arise, how do he beat his student if he also only has 10 techniques? Good question… We fail to remember that we keep on learning. When he taught his student the 10 techniques, he already got his technique no.11. This is based on principle: the more we give, the more we receive.
Likewise, in marketing, the same applies. Look at Google; they give a lot of free stuffs. But instead of failing, they are winning the battle. Same goes to Amazon, they applied the same principle. They are selling cheaper than others, in fact in a loss. So assuming they lost $1 per item, if one year they lost $100,000, so where they get their profit from?
The answer is there. The key word is value added service. You do a study and you will find the answer. I have revealed it in my seminars. Do not be surprise a lot of the principles are adopted from the best- selling book of all time- The Bible. Well, the acronym for B.I.B.L.E is Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth, sounds interesting right?
In this moment of economy downturn, continue to upgrade ourselves, keep on learning-the best investment we can make. In his best- selling book, “The Psychology of Winning “, Dr.Dennis Whitley said, “We need to develop winning habit that will win in life”. I wish to add that the very habit we cultivate will yield our destiny.” Be strong; be bold as we attempt to change the world. “The best weapon to change the world is through education” , Nelson Mandela.
