Marketing 101-16 On the 18th of August 2018 marked the first 100 days Pakatan Harapan governs the country. It created history after winning the 14th General Election on the 9th of May2018 in one of the fiercest battle overthrowing Barisan National out of the way. Pakatan Harapan had pleaded to implement its manifesto as contained in Buku Harapan, drawn out from an extensive primary and secondary research as well as from all the stakeholders including the 7 main persons who contributed largely to the formulation of the said manifesto. Basically, these are successfully carried out: 1. Goods and Service Tax (GST) which has been zero rated and will be replaced with the Sales and Services Tax (SST) comes September 1st, 2018. As Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng said, “GST sudah mati”. 2. The EPF contribution for housewife, announced on the 15th of August 2018. 3. The PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund Corporation) provided a respite for 433,000 borrowers blacklisted. 4. Fuel price for RON95 is set at a subsidized rate per liter and in which a new mechanisms will be introduced to help the poor. 5. “Megaprojects” like the ECRL, MRT3 and HSR are under review. The election promises that are being worked out are: 1. The healthcare scheme similar to Selangor’s skim Peduli Sihat promised for the B40 group as a whole being worked out. 2. Minimum wage issue is being carried out. Apart from that, the Government has the intention to be known for integrity and not corruption. In realizing this, certain measures were carried out: - Establishing a Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption(JKKMAR) - Establishing the Governance, integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre(GIACC) - Formulating the National Anti-Corruption Plan - Legislation to curb leakages or wastage of government funds - Drafting of Political Funding Bill is also in the process - Policy of gifts and donations to members of the civil service is also being drafted Moving forward, we have to wait and see for the remaining promises that are yet to be fulfilled. Basically, a reflection on the manifesto is that it has 5 pillars, 10 promises in 100 days, 60 promises in 5 years and 5 special pledges to be met. So it is unfair to say that the Pakatan Government fail in its bid to fulfil the election promises such as the abolition of toll, because it was not under the 100 days promise but later. Personally, I think it is a huge success factoring in the limitations and constraints faced like the massive debt over 1 Trillion and the damages done by the previous government. Let us give them more time as I believe despite many of them are new but because of their passion, the cabinet will be able to make it! Let us pray and committing to the task of rebuilding our nation with zeal, passion and dedication with our respective talents and ability in whatever way we can for this beloved nation of ours. With just more than 100 days passed, don’t you think that they deserve more time?
